Set up departments and groups
Define the organisational tree so users roll up by department and group, and so sales rollups and approver trees work correctly.
You need the Admin role (or higher) to complete the steps on this page.
Departments are the top level of your org structure. Groups sit under a department and let you cluster users further (for example, "Mumbai sales group" and "Delhi sales group" both under Sales). The analytics dashboards, approver chains and user visibility rules all rely on this tree being accurate.
Add a department
Step 1: Open Admin → Departments
Scroll to Admin → Departments in the sidebar. The list shows every department with its code and user count.

Step 2: Click Add department
Fill in Code (short, uppercase, no spaces — e.g. SALES, OPS) and Name (sentence case for display — e.g. Sales, Project operations). Leave Active on.
Step 3: Save
Click Save. The department is now available on every form that picks a department (Add user, Add employee, Add group).
Add a group under a department
Step 1: Open Admin → Groups
Click Add group. Pick the parent department first — the dropdown lists only groups scoped to that department.
Step 2: Fill in Code and Name and save
Groups do not nest further. Use them for the next level of granularity your team needs (region, cost centre, specialisation).
Assign a user to a department and group
Step 1: Open the user's profile
Open Admin → Users and click the user.
Step 2: Pick a department, then a group
The Group dropdown filters to only the groups under the selected department. Save.
A user's department and group drive which records they see in analytics rollups and which approval queues they appear in. Keep them accurate.
